High Mileage
Published in Paperback by Warner Brothers Publications (December, 2001)
Author: Alan Jackson
Average review score:

"Gone Crazy" for Alan Jackson's "High Mileage."
I'll go on loving Alan Jackson's songbook, "High Mileage." I'd love to tell you why, but it'll mean backtracking a little bit, so please, bear with me.

Alan Jackson is my favorite country music performer. Watching him and other country artists had rekindled my intrest in playing guitar. It had been years since I'd played. I couldn't remember half of what I'd been taught nor did I have any songbooks to help me out.

That was quickly remedied. I simply accessed [...] and ordered Alan Jackson's "High Mileage" songbook. At the same time I sent my long-neglected, acoustic guitar in for reconditioning and a new set of strings.

Soon I had my "High Mileage" songbook in hand, but I could only play three out of the ten songs on the album. I needed to take it a step further and sign up with a guitar coach. I did just that. My "High Mileage" songbook has come to class with me every week. My instructor has been teaching me new chords, rhythms, and picking styles previously unknown to me. At this time, I can play eight out of the ten selections.

My point in telling you all this? So that you might better understand my joy at being able to play along with my favorite country artist. When I crank up my High Mileage CD and play along with my guitar, using my "High Mileage" songbook...It's been the next best thing to jammin' with Alan Jackson himself. My overall rating for the songbook is excellent. It's easy to read and follow along. My guitar coach (a man)was excited to find the Metronome settings, listed for each song. But I (a woman)was more tickled to see the large photos of "AJ" that adorn the book. After all, the man is easy on the eyes.

I did however, find just a couple of problem areas that were mildly frustrating and easily remedied. The first was on page thirty, the song, "Hurtin' Comes Easy." A "D" chord was missing in the eighth measure. The chords should have been, E-D-A. Then on page forty-three, the song, "Little Man," there was no indication to use a guitar capo. The capo should be used on the first fret.

In my opinion though, these minor upsets were nothing compared to the hours of joy I've spent playing along with Mr. Country Music! I've been playing my guitar more than ever before and together were're strumming up some "High Mileage" of our own.

Fabulous Pictorial overview
I used this book to do some research about early mormon families. It acurately and pictorially follows the early history from beginning to present.

Every other page is a map or chart with a brief overview on the other page.

If you want the facts and nice illustrations of them this is the book for you. Only 150 pages.

Hitler and Nazi Germany: A History
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall (27 September, 1995)
Author: Jackson J. Spielvogel
Average review score:

The best short history of Nazi Germany available
Jackson Spielvogel has provided an excellent overview of the Nazi period of German history. His scope is comprehensive, considering Germany before Hitler, the dictator himself, the Nazi path to power, and the system that Hitler and his followers established once they came to power. He goes on to consider the two logical outgrowths of the philosophy of Nazism, World War II, aptly called "Hitler's War," and the Holocaust.

Throughout, Spielvogel succeeds in making the contemporary reader understand how the Nazis could come to power in "the land of Bach and Beethoven." This is a crucial question, not only for historians, but for every citizen of the world. As recent events in the Balkans and Africa have demonstrated, it is all too easy for the veneer of civilization to crack and expose the barbarism beneath.

I would recommend this volume to anyone with an interest in World War II, modern Europe and Germany, or the desire to be a better and more responsible human being.

Who is the Right Author?
My name is Carlton Jackson and I am the author of "Hounds of the Road," published in the early 80s by Popular Press of Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and Kendall/Hunt in Iowa. I have no idea whatever of why this book is being listed as authored by "Pat J.BGU." When the book was first published Kendall/Hunt listed it as R. Browne (who was at that time the director of Popular Press). I thought I had corrected the problem. The book deals with the Greyhound bus company, and I am presently writing a new introduction and a new final chapter for a revised edition of this book. It will be out in early January 2000l. For anyone out there wondering about this matter, I am Carlton Jackson of Western KY University, and I AM THE AUTHOR of Hounds of the Road. I will now take steps to get this matter cleared up. Cheers, Carlton Jackson

It¿ll make a New Yorker proud and an outa-towner educated.
This is your ultimate guide to understanding the twisted vocabulary of your native New Yorker. If you are a New Yorker it will make you proud. It is an essential guide for New Yorkers to understand themselves and a necessary survival guide for tourists. It is important to understand that when a New Yorker says, "Good mawnin'. Howawya?", he is being friendly. You'll also find lotsa Catlicks in St. Patricks Cathedral. The illustrations by Frank Marciuliano are hysterical. In fact, they are essential in understanding some of the words. A must have! 'How to Speak New Yorkese' will show you that 'the only way ta make it through a day in New Yawk is with a sensa yuma'.

Humic, Fulvic and Microbial Balance: Organic Soil Conditioning: An Agricultural Text and Reference Book
Published in Hardcover by Umi Research Pr (April, 1993)
Author: William R., Phd Jackson
Average review score:

A TREASURE TROVE OF INFORMATION & REFERENCES
As a research scientist working in fields related to this subject, I have read the book from cover to cover many times over, and often use it as a regular source of reference material. Each time I re-read the various sections I continue to make many new discoveries. This book reads well, and will capture the attention of both the layman and the professional, and has a tremendous amount of depth. Anyone with a serious love for organic gardening and agriculture, and desire to know more about humic substances including fulvic acids, will not be disappointed. THIS BOOK UNEARTHS THE TRUE ESSENCE OF WHY ORGANIC GROWN FOOD IS BETTER. The book is worth the price just for the references and various reprint Appendixes alone. Dr. Jackson does an excellent job of assembling and explaining the material. This is a book that every serious farmer in the world needs to read, and every consumer needs to hear this message or at least experience it through the food they eat. The overall world health implications found within these page are profound. The agricultural chemical dealers need to read this book also, but they won't because it could eventually be the doom for a portion of their industry. Certainly this book has a message of significant global importance. The health and destiny of all mankind lies in the balance. The subject matter in this book is no doubt already helping to save lives and suffering of people around the world. I salute you Bill Jackson, for being a modern-day pioneer and for writing a book that is many years ahead of its time.
